Nothing like sitting by or in the pool to “Beat the Heat!” This is the finished quilt, just chillin’ by the pool!
It’s easy to Beat the Heat when using beautiful fall colours! These are the fabrics that came in my “Surprise!” package way back in January!!! Aren’t they wonderful? !!! I fell in love the moment I opened my surprise package. The line is “Soil & Seeds” by Kathy Engle. Oh – and did I tell you that I LOVE THEM????? It has been SEW hard to keep these fabrics a secret! But now you understand why I couldn’t share the fabrics until now!
I did use EQ7 to ensure I had enough fabric to make the quilt I wanted to make … but the pattern is actually based on “Charming Fractions” by Mountainpeek Creations. I did change the pattern a bit, but credit still needs to go to the original designer! I wanted a quilt that showcased the fabrics … and this pattern does that! Every single fabric is used in the quilt.
There are 3 browns in this collection. I was given a half-yard cut of each of them and 2 yards of the dark brown you can see on the bottom right (picture above). I used the browns as “frames” for each of the blocks. The 2 yards of mushrooms on the left was used in the border.
One of my favourite ways to “Beat the Heat” is to sit in our hammock chairs and have a cool glass of iced mint sun tea and a good book to read!
The quilt is has Hobbs 80/20 batting and quilted with Aurifil thread: # 2370 – that I call camouflage. The binding used a dark brown Aurifil #5013. The interior of the quilt is meandering swirls and a loose feather is in the border. It was quilted on my Janome 8900 domestic machine.
I absolutely LOVE the fabric with the gardening tools! There are 3 colour-ways of the tools in this collection. Can you find them in the quilt below?

Great fabrics displayed in a terrific design. I love the way you quilted it too. EQ does help to check, but I need to stick with the plan to make it really help.
